3-Day Mediation Program

This unique training program has been specifically designed to enhance the knowledge and skills of property assessment authorities, taxpayer representatives, and municipal employees who participate in negotiations and mediations. You will be given the tools to improve your communication, negotiation, and mediation advocacy skills and will learn how to optimize the mediation process offered by the Assessment Review Board ("ARB").

The Program comprises three workshop days. Attendance at all 3 days is required to receive a Certificate of Completion. The workshops will be delivered by Leslie H. Macleod, B.A., LL.B., LL.M. (ADR), an experienced mediator and educator in the field of conflict resolution.

The first workshop provides a general overview of relevant dispute resolution best practices and features a presentation by ARB members. The second workshop is a "how to" course that delves more deeply into the format and dynamics of mediation before the ARB, and provides a checklist of what "to do" and "not to do" at the various stages of mediation. The third workshop focuses on advanced dispute resolution skills and canvasses professional and ethical responsibilities. It also addresses ways to handle challenging issues that are likely to arise at some point in your practice.

No matter what your level of experience with negotiation and mediation, you are bound to come away with valuable tips from these workshops. They will be practical, engaging, and highly interactive.
